With this week being National Garden Week (June 4 – 11), we wanted to give you all a few gardening tips from our in-house horticulturist, Stephanie Baker, from Ready to Grow Gardens!
If you’re interested in putting your green thumb to use this summer you still have time. Although crops are finishing out, you can still plant these fruits and vegetables:
- Green Beans
Stephanie suggests using the summer months to prepare your soil for planting, “Preparing your soil with compost and expanded shale will help retain moisture and provide good drainage,” said Stephanie. “It’s best to give your soil a few weeks to a month to settle before using it. Preparing soil may take some time, but in the end it will provide the ultimate results.”
The most important rule is to have fun! “Horticulture teaches us to slow down and appreciate the beauty in a garden. This appreciation helps us to notice the small things and wonders around us every day.”
Appreciation for nature is one of the many benefits that our Cypress neighbors will receive from Deep Cypress Gardens, when it’s complete. Once developed, the property will have an array of gardens and features. “I’m excited for the community to have a place to gather and enjoy so many things,” said Stephanie. “A great farm-to-table meal, a place for a garden wedding or reception surrounded by the beauty of nature, to a place to get ideas for your own garden at home. There will be so many opportunities and ways to appreciate nature!”
